DENVER – The University of Denver women’s lacrosse program announced today that the team has added midfielder Payton Vaughn to its roster as a graduate-transfer for the 2024 campaign.
Vaughn joins the Pioneers for another year of eligibility after spending the previous five years at Yale University. She started all 55 games she appeared in for the Bulldogs and finished her career fourth on the program’s all-time ground balls list with 100.
Elected as a team captain by her teammates as a senior in 2023, Vaughn led the squad with 38 ground balls, third-most in a single campaign in the school record books. She ranked third on the Bulldogs with 18 caused turnovers and added four goals and one draw control as senior, helping Yale to its second consecutive Ivy League Championship game and earning Second Team All-Ivy League honors.
“I am so excited to play at the University of Denver and compete at the highest level while living in Colorado,” said Vaughn.
The Concord, Massachusetts, native totaled 24 points on 15 goals and nine assists during her four years at Yale while also recording 45 career draw controls and 47 caused turnovers, the latter of which was eighth on Yale’s all-time list.
Vaughn was a three-sport athlete in high school, as she also played field hockey and soccer during her time at Concord Carlisle. She was twice named an USA Lacrosse All-American and All-Academic Team Member (2017, 2018), a three-time varsity team MVP (2016, 2017, 2018) and a three-time DCL All-Star (2016, 2017, 2018). Vaughn helped Concord Carlisle to DCL Large championships in both 2015 and 2018 and the MIAA Division 1 East sectional championship in 2015. She played club lacrosse with Mass Elite.
Earning her bachelor’s degree in economics from Yale in spring 2023, Vaughn intends to earn a healthcare policy and regulatory leadership certificate at Denver.
