SPARKS, Md. – Denver Pioneers women’s lacrosse assistant coach Brittany Read will once again be taking part in Athletes Unlimited, as the third season of the professional women’s lacrosse league gets underway on Thursday, July 20.

Read, a goalkeeper, finished fourth on the AU leaderboard in Season 2, garnering 1,394 points in 2022—just five points behind midfield Ally Mastroianni in third place. Goalkeeper Taylor Moreno won the AU Lacrosse Championship by finishing first on the leaderboard with 1798 points.

Points are distributed to and taken away from each player of AU based on individual offensive and defensive statistics. Game MVPs also earn points. More about scoring.

Since she finished in the top four, Read will serve as one of the four team captains to begin the AU Season 3. Each of the four captains—the players with the top four points from the previous week—draft their respective teams each Monday night prior to the new week’s games.

This season will be played over the course of four weeks, with competition also set for July 27-29, Aug. 3-5 and Aug. 10-12. The contests will be broadcasted on the ESPN networks (ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN+).

Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse features 56 of some of the best women’s lacrosse professional players in the world, playing short-form, fast-paced game consisting of 10-minute quarters. The game is played 10-on-10 on a 90-by-60-yard field and with a 60-second shot clock. All contests are played at USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Maryland.

Read completed her fifth season as an assistant coach on Liza Kelly’s staff at DU in 2023, primarily working with the goalies and helping with defensive strategies en route to the Pioneers’ program-record 22-1 campaign. For the previous two seasons, Denver women’s lacrosse alum Molly Little also played in AU.
