BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – A trio of Illinois Wesleyan University men’s lacrosse players, along with the Titan coaching staff, earned Intercollegiate Men’s College Lacrosse Region 5 honors, the organization announced Monday, June 5. Senior Carson Kiichle (Vancouver, Wash.-Skyview) and junior Gage Black (Peoria, Ill.-Dunlap) earned first team honors at attack and midfield, respectively, while sophomore Nick Schroeder (Waunakee, Wis.-Waunakee) was named to the second team at faceoff. Head Coach Zach Iannucci and the rest of his staff were named the Region 5 Coaching Staff of the Year.

An IMLCA All-Region 5 honorable mention a season ago, Kiichle capped off an exceptional career for the Green and White with his best season yet. The Vancouver, Wash. native led the team with a team-leading 94 points. His 56 assists shattered the program’s single-season assist record, along with his 2.95 assist per game average, the ninth-best across the nation. Kiichle averaged 4.95 points per game, the 37th-highest average nationally, while his 0.475 shot percentage was the 25th-best. A three-time First Team All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin honoree and United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-America Honorable Mention selection, Kiichle completes his collegiate career as one of the best in IWU history.

Black picks up First Team All-Region 5 honors after an explosive season for the midfielder. He finished with 49 goals, second-most on the team, and notched 53 points on the season. Black led the team with eight man-up goals and three game winners. His 2.88 goals per game was the third-highest in the CCIW and top-100 nationally. Black capped off his junior season with USILA All-America Honorable Mention honors, and was named to the First Team All-CCIW after a dominant conference season.

Schroeder, one of the nation’s most dominant faceoff guys, picks up his first regional award after landing on the second team. In his sophomore campaign, Schroeder was named First Team All-CCIW, along with USILA Dynamic Team of the Week honors, March 8, and was named the CCIW Defensive Player of the Week, March 7. Schroeder won 234 of his 360 faceoffs during the 2023 season. He finished 21st nationally in faceoff win percentage, with a 0.650 clip. The Waunakee, Wis. native led the Green and White with 126 ground balls, sixth most in a single season in IWU history. His 8.40 ground balls per game average is fifth best in program history, and was the 37th best average across Division III.

In his 10th year at the helm, Iannucci and his staff led the Titans to their fifth straight outright CCIW Regular Season title, along with winning the CCIW Tournament Championship for the fifth time. The perfect 6-0 record in conference action led Iannucci to pick up his third CCIW Coach of the Year honor, and marked the fifth straight season without a loss in CCIW play. The tournament championship earned the Titans their fifth NCAA Tournament berth, and made it to the Second Round. It’s the first time Iannucci and his staff have picked up the regional honor.
