Sophomore Clifford Gaston and junior Seth Grottenthaler each tallied two goals and an assist, while junior Miles Tillman scored two goals.
Graduate student long-stick midfielder Taylor Jensen had five caused turnovers, five ground balls and an assist, and graduate student goalie Will Sterrett made four saves to earn the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Western Connecticut scored the first two goals of the game, taking a 2-0 lead on Joseph Boss’ goal with 12:28 remaining in the first quarter.
- RIT scored the final three goals of the opening quarter to lead 3-2. Pilcher, Grottenthaler and Hendricks each scored for the Tigers.
- RIT scored the first four goals of the second quarter, extending its lead to 7-2 on Pilcher’s transition goal off an assist from senior Joe Camp with 7:27 to play in the half.
- Stephen Cicchetti scored for the Wolves with 6:20 to play to cut the RIT lead to 7-3.
- Pilcher scored from Mozrall with 3:55 to play to give the Tigers an 8-3 lead.
- Cicchetti tallied his second of the quarter with 3:37 remaining to cut the lead to 8-4.
- Bell, senior Dylan Bruno and Tillman each scored late in the quarter to give the Tigers an 11-4 halftime lead.
- Grottenthaler scored early in the third quarter to increase the Tigers lead to 12-5.
- Western Connecticut’s Matt Sweeney scored with 13:32 to play that cut the RIT lead to 12-5.
- RIT scored five straight goals, increasing its lead to 17-5 on back-to-back goals from Hendricks.
- The Wolves scored with four seconds to play in the quarter to cut the RIT lead to 17-6.
- Junior Caleb Commandant, junior Connor Finneran and senior Josh Hamill each scored in the fourth quarter, while Peter Traina and Tristan McMahon scored for Western Connecticut to make it a20-8 final.
GAME NOTES
- RIT outshot Western Connecticut, 48-39
- The Tigers went 2-for-4 with the extra man and 23-of-26 on clears.
- RIT outscored the Wolves 14-4 in the second and third quarters.
