DENVER – Sophomore goalkeeper Emelia Bohi of the University of Denver women’s lacrosse team has been named the IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week, the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association announced on Tuesday.
Bohi guided the Pioneers to the Big East Conference Tournament Championship last weekend in Connecticut, combining for 18 saves in wins against Villanova and UConn. She stopped five shots and had two caused turnovers in a 12-7 victory over Villanova in the semifinals on Friday before making a career-high 13 saves in the championship game on Sunday at UConn.
The Bethesda, Maryland, native also stopped six-of-eight free position attempts and added three ground balls in the 11-6 win over the Huskies, and she was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament and a member of the All-Tournament Team. Bohi is the first keeper to be named the conference’s Most Outstanding Player since Loyola’s Kerry Stoothoff in 2012.
This is her first career national honor, and she is the first DU goalie to be named National Defensive Player of the Week since Carson Gregg on Feb. 11, 2020. Bohi was twice named the Big East Defensive Player of the Week during the year (Feb. 13, May 1) and owns three such conference honors in her career (Feb. 21, 2022).
Bohi has a 19-0 record on the year and leads the nation in wins (19) and goals-against average (6.05) and ranks tied for fifth in the NCAA with a .532 save percentage.
Denver picks up its second straight national weekly award after senior defender Sam Thacker was named National Co-Defensive Player of the Week last Tuesday. DU has earned nine such national accolades in program history and four this year, as senior Julia Gilbert was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week on March 7 and Bryn McCaughey earned defensive honors on March 21.
Izzy Scane of Northwestern was named the National Offensive Player of the Week after combining for eight goals, five assists and two ground balls in two games during Big Ten Tournament.
