Sophomore attack Clifford Gaston scored six goals and senior attack Luke Pilcher tallied two goals and an assist. Graduate student long-stick midfielder Taylor Jensen caused four turnovers, grabbed three ground balls and had an assist.
Graduate student goalie Will Sterrett made seven saves to earn the win and junior Nick Farrell won 7-of-11 draws, while sophomore Carson Taylor won eight face-offs and had five ground balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Pilcher, Mozrall and junior Kaden Brunson each had a goal and an assist in the Tigers’ 4-0 run to begin the game. Pilcher opened the scoring giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead off a feed from Mozrall.
- Senior TJ Hendricks scored from Pilcher, and Mozrall scored from Brunson to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead.
- St. Lawrence’s Chase Malatesta scored with 3:12 to play in the quarter to cut the RIT lead to 4-1.
- Gaston scored in transition off a feed from graduate student Noah Bruno with 2:49 to play in the first, to give the Tigers a 5-1 lead.
- Ben Hutchinson scored with 41 seconds to play in the quarter off an assist from Judge Murphy that cut the deficit to 5-2.
- First-year Chase Bruno, Mozrall and senior Spencer Bell each scored in a three-goal spurt to increase the Tigers’ lead to 8-2 to begin the second quarter.
- St. Lawrence’s Paddy Condon scored to cut the RIT lead to 8-3, but goals from senior Sean Traynor, Gaston and junior Seth Grottenthaler gave RIT an 11-2 lead with 2:12 to play in the half.
- St. Lawrence scored two goals late in the half to cut the RIT lead to 11-5 at the break.
- Gaston, senior Dylan Bruno and Pilcher scored back-to-back-to-back goals to begin the third quarter, taking a 14-5 lead on Pilcher’s goal off an assist from Jensen with 9:01 to play.
- St. Lawrence scored three straight goals, cutting the RIT lead to 14-8 on Stew Hutchinson’s goal with :59 seconds to play in the third.
- Mozrall gave the Tigers a 15-8 lead on his goal with 11:24 remaining. Gaston scored three straight goals to give RIT an 18-8 lead, while junior Miles Tillman scored with 4:16 remaining to give RIT a 19-8 lead.
- Cody Sipher scored for St. Lawrence in the closing minutes to make it a 19-9 final.
GAME NOTES
- RIT outshot St. Lawrence, 54-34, including 32 on net.
- The Tigers won 16-of-31 draws and had 47 ground balls.
- RIT went 28-of-29 on clearing attempts.
