DENVER – The University of Denver women’s lacrosse team stayed put at No. 3 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine poll but dropped two spots to No. 5 in the Inside Lacrosse Women/IWLCA coaches poll on Monday after the latest rankings were released.
Denver, which was No. 3 in both polls, is coming off an undefeated regular season (17-0) and is the only Division-I program in the country that has yet to lose a game. DU earned its fourth consecutive Big East regular season championship on Saturday with a 12-5 win at then-No. 24 Marquette.
Boston College moved up to No. 2 in the coaches’ poll after winning the ACC Championship and North Carolina jumped from sixth to third after finishing runner-up to BC in that conference tournament. Syracuse moved down from two to four after losing in the ACC Semifinals.
Northwestern of the Big Ten Conference remains as the No. 1 team in the country in both polls.
The Big East Conference has three teams in the IL Women/IWLCA ranking, as Marquette moved up from No. 24 to No. 19 with the loss to Denver while Connecticut dropped one spot to No. 24 despite winning last weekend.
The Pioneers have six wins this year against ranked opponents—five of which coming outside of Denver—as they beat No. 21 Michigan on March 1 at home, No. 5 Maryland on March 5, No. 4 Boston College in Jacksonville on March 19, No. 21 Jacksonville on March 22, No. 25 Connecticut on April 8 and No. 24 Marquette last Saturday.
UP NEXT: Denver is the No. 1 seed for this weekend’s Big East Tournament and faces No. 4 seed Villanova in the conference semifinals on Friday at 2 p.m. MT.
About the ILWomen/IWLCA Poll: Unveiled on Mondays throughout the season, the poll is voted on jointly by coaches throughout the country and members of the media.
