POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Quinnipiac men’s lacrosse is set to open up 2023 postseason play on Saturday night, as the No. 6 Bobcats travel to No. 3 Marist for a 7:00 PM game on ESPN+.
 
QU won three of its last four games during the regular season, finishing with a 5-4 league mark to earn a spot in the 2023 MAAC Tournament. All six men’s lacrosse programs in the MAAC Tournament finished over .500 during the regular season.

2023 BOBCATS

  • Quinnipiac went 7-6 overall, finishing above .500 for the third time in five years under Head Coach Mason Poli. The Bobcats have reached the postseason three time’s in Poli’s five season as Head Coach.
  • QU finished the regular season as the league’s top scoring offense (12.62 goals per game), and also rank No. 1 in the MAAC in assists per game (7.69 APG).

ALL-MAAC HONORS

  • Five Quinnipiac men’s lacrosse student-athletes earned All-MAAC recognition for their performance during the 2023 regular season, as announced by the league office on Friday, April 28.
  • Steven Germain earned All-MAAC First Team honors to highlight all Bobcats. John DeLucia, Jake Tellers, and Demitri George were named to the All-MAAC Second Team, and Justin Robbert was selected to the All-Rookie Team.  

QU EARNS WIN vs. LIU ON SENIOR DAY (4/22)

  • Quinnipiac men’s lacrosse outscored LIU 11-5 in the second half of action, cruising past the Sharks by the final score of 19-13 in Saturday’s regular-season finale. 
  • The Bobcats improve to 7-6 (5-4 MAAC) with the win, and have now clinched a spot in the 2023 MAAC Tournament. 
  • Dylan Donnery led the way with five goals and one assist. John DeLucia chipped in with five assists and one goal. 
  • Steven Germain and Evan Perry each added four points. Demitri George won 21-of-35 faceoff battles. 

BOBCATS TOP VMI IN ROAD THRILLER (4/15)

  • Quinnipiac men’s lacrosse battled to a road MAAC win on Saturday, as the Bobcats topped VMI 14-13 at Drill Field #2.
  • John DeLucia scored on a man-up opportunity with 59 seconds remaining in the third quarter to give QU a 12-11 lead. Trevor Douglas and Dylan Donnery each scored to extend the Bobcats’ lead to three goals.
  • VMI scored twice in the last four minutes, but the Bobcats held on for the 14-13 MAAC victory.

QU DROPS ROAD MATCHUP AT SHU (4/12)

  • Quinnipiac men’s lacrosse battled on the road on Wednesday, falling just short against Sacred Heart by the final score of 13-11.
  • Steven Germain recorded two goals and two helpers to lead the way for the Bobcats. Jake Tellers scored three goals.

SECOND-HALF RALLY LIFTS QU PAST SIENA (4/8)

  • The Quinnipiac University men’s lacrosse team found itself down by as much as four in the second half, but the Bobcats scored eight of the final 10 goals to roar past Siena, 14-12, on Saturday afternoon at the QU Lacrosse Stadium.
  • A tie game going into the final 2:30, back-to-back tallies from Steven Germain and Dylan Donnery gave the Bobcats the lead for good.
  • Germain scored twice in the fourth quarter, including the game-winner, to propel the Bobcats to 3-3 in MAAC play.

QU FALLS vs. MSM (4/1) QU FALLS vs. MANHATTAN (3/29)

  • QU fell to the Manhattan Jaspers by a score of 12-5 on Wednesday afternoon in Hamden.
  • John DeLucia led the way with two goals and one assist for QU. Justin RobbertEvan Perry, and Jake Tellers were the other goal scorers for the Bobcats.
  • Nick DiMuccio made 15 saves in the loss. The Bobcats were outscored 6-1 in the second half of action.

BOBCATS OUTLAST MARIST IN HAMDEN (3/25)

  • QU battled to its second MAAC victory of the 2023 season on Saturday, March 25, outlasting Marist to earn a 14-12 victory at the QU Lacrosse Stadium.
  • The Bobcats (4-3, 2-1 MAAC) outscored the Red Foxes 5-3 in the fourth period of action.
  • John DeLucia led the way with three goals and three helpers for QU. Dylan Donnery chipped in with three goals and one assist. Steven GermainTrey Gehen and Trevor Douglas each scored twice in the win.
  • Nick DiMuccio made 13 saves in the win.
  • Jake Tellers scored with 5:54 remaining in regulation to give QU a 13-11 lead, and Trevor Douglas sealed the win with a strike to put the Bobcats ahead 14-12 with 1:21 left.

BOBCATS FALL IN OT at WAGNER (3/18)

  • Quinnipiac battled on the road on Saturday, as the Bobcats’ effort ultimately fell just short in a triple overtime loss at Wagner (12-11).
  • Dylan Donnery tied the game 11-11 with less than three seconds left in regulation. Tommy Andruzzi cleared the ball, made a move toward the cage and found Donnery in front for the finish.
  • Wagner scored in the third overtime stanza after two scoreless extra frames to claim the MAAC win.
  • John DeLucia and Jake Tellers each scored twice for Quinnipiac. Nick DiMuccio made 16 saves in front of the cage for the Bobcats.

TELLERS SCORES GAME-WINNER vs. CANISIUS (3/11)

  • The Bobcats won their 2023 MAAC opener on Saturday, March 11, holding on to defeat Canisius by the final score of 13-12 at the QU Lacrosse Stadium in Hamden.
  • Steven Germain led QU offensively with five points (two goals, three assists). John DeLucia chipped in with three goals and one assist for four points, and Jake Tellers and Trevor Douglas each scored three times in the victory.
  • Tellers netted the game-winning goal with 4:22 left, then the Bobcats’ defense held strong over the final four-plus minutes of regulation.

BOBCATS FALL vs. MERRIMACK (3/5/23)

  • QU dropped a non-league matchup vs. Merrimack, 16-8, on Sunday , March 5 at the QU Lacrosse Stadium.
  • Dylan Donnery recorded four goals to lead the way for the Bobcats. John DeLucia added two goals and one assist, and Justin Robbert recorded three helpers.
  • Demitri George won 18-of-26 faceoff battles and scooped up 11 ground balls. Nick DiMuccio made 14 saves in front of the cage.

LOSS vs. BRYANT (2/25/23)

  • Quinnipiac men’s lacrosse dropped a non-conference matchup vs. Bryant, 19-12, at the snowy QU Lacrosse Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
  • Steven Germain and John DeLucia each recorded three goals and an assist to pace the Bobcats – who move to 2-1 so far this season.

WIN at NATIONALLY-RANKED BROWN (2/18/23)

  • Quinnipiac men’s lacrosse downed No. 13 Brown on Saturday afternoon, battling to a 11-10 victory on the road to improve to 2-0.
  • Nick DiMuccio made 21 saves in the victory for the Bobcats.
  • Dylan Donnery (3 goals, 1 assist) and Jake Tellers (2 goals, 2 assists) each recorded four points to pace the Bobcats’ offensive attack.
  • Donnery scored with 3:57 remaining to give QU a 10-9 advantage, then Tellers found the back of the cage with 2:55 left to extend the advantage to two goals.
  • Demitri George won 14-of-23 faceoff attempts, and scooped up nine ground balls.

SEASON-OPENING VICTORY (2/11/23)

  • Quinnipiac men’s lacrosse battled to a 21-12 win over UMass Lowell in the 2023 season opener on Saturday, Feb. 11 in Hamden.
  • Steven GermainTrey Gehen and Justin Robbert paced QU’s offensive attack, as each recorded four goals in the win.
  • John DeLucia added three goals and four assists for seven total points, and Dylan Donnery chipped in with two goals and two helpers.
  • Demitri George won 23-of-34 battles in the faceoff x, and Nick DiMuccio made nine saves in the Quinnipiac victory.
  • 21 goals in a game is the most QU has posted since scoring 24 times in 2002 vs. Binghamton. The Bobcats program record in a single game is 27 goals (4/1/2000 vs. Wagner). 
  • The Bobcats outscored the River Hawks 14-4 in the first half of action. QU scored nine times in the second quarter of action.
  • QU outshot UML 44-29 in total (27-13 in the first half).

MEET THE BOBCATS (stats pre-2023 season)

  • The 2021 & 2022 MAAC Faceoff Special of the Year Demitri George returns for his graduate season with the Bobcats. George won 187-357 faceoff attempts (52.4%) in 2022, and finished 10th nationally in ground balls per game. He also won 115-of-155 faceoff attempts (74.2%) in 2022 – which ranked 2nd in the entire country.
  • Goalie Nick DiMuccio also returns for his graduate season at QU after making 13.33 saves per game (9th nationally) in 2022.
  • The Bobcats return 7 of their top 9 scorers from a season ago.
  • Ryan Donnery (31 points in 2022) and Dylan Donnery (29 points in 2022) are both back for QU to help pace the offense. John DeLucia (27 points last year), Steven Germain (26 points last year) and Jake Tellers (23 points last year) are also returning to QU’s attack unit.
  • Nick DiMuccioDemitri GeorgeZack Siegel and John DeLucia will serve as captains for QU in 2023.

HEAD COACH MASON POLI

  • Mason Poli, a former standout lacrosse player at Bryant University, enters his ninth season with the Quinnipiac coaching staff in 2023 – and his fifth at the helm of the program.
  • After serving as an assistant for the Bobcats’ program for four seasons (2015-18), Poli was elevated to Interim Head Coach for the 2019 season. He was then named Men’s Lacrosse Head Coach on May 10, 2019, becoming the Bobcats’ sixth head coach in program history and third at the Division I level.
  • In 2019 as Interim Head Coach, Poli led Quinnipiac men’s lacrosse to a 9-7 (5-2 MAAC) record and the program’s third-ever appearance in the MAAC Tournament championship contest. Poli led all first-year Division I head coaches in total wins (9) and winning percentage (.562) in 2019.
  • The Bobcats have won 22 games under Poli’s guidance since 2019.

 GERMAIN, GEORGE NAMED PRESEASON ALL-MAAC

  • Steven Germain (midfield) and Demitri George (FO Specialist) were both selected to the Preseason All-MAAC Team.
  • The Bobcats were tabbed sixth in the league’s Preseason Coaches’ Poll

THE 2023 SCHEDULE

  • QU’s 2023 slate begins on Saturday, Feb. 11, as the Bobcats play host to UMass Lowell at 12:00 PM in Hamden.
  • The Bobcats have 13 contests in total.
  • Conference play for the Bobcats on March 11 vs. Canisius at home in Hamden. LIU, Sacred Heart, Wagner, VMI and Mount St. Mary’s have all joined the MAAC ahead of the 2023 season, raising the total number of men’s lacrosse teams in the league to 10.
  • Quinnipiac will host eight home matches in total: two in February, four in March, and two in April. The Bobcats home dates are:

– Feb. 11 vs. UMass Lowell
– Feb. 25 vs. Bryant
– March 4 vs. Merrimack
– March 11 vs. Canisius
– March 25 vs. Marist
– March 29 vs. Manhattan
– April 8 vs. Siena

LAST YEAR (2022)

  • Quinnipiac went 2-11 overall (1-5 MAAC) last season. Demitri George returns for the Bobcats after being named MAAC Face-Off Specialist of the Year in each of the last two seasons.
  • The Bobcats also placed three midfielders on the All-MAAC Team in 2022. Sophomore Steven Germain earned All-MAAC First Team honors, while junior Jake Tellers and senior Will Abbott were named to the All-MAAC Second Team.
