First-year Serafina Kiselgof scored three goals, while classmate Adele Jones tallied two goals. Graduate student goalie Michelle Messenger made 15 saves to earn the win.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Sydney McPartlon scored early in the first quarter to give Union the lead.
  • Jones tied the game on her goal with 11:34 to play in the quarter.
  • Heffernan scored back-to-back goals to increase the Tigers’ lead to 3-1. She scored with 11:08 to play and again with 2:22 remaining off an assist from sophomore Lily DePalma to give RIT a two-goal lead.
  • RIT scored the first three goals of the second quarter to extend its lead to 6-1. Junior Julia Tenney scored a free-position goal early in the quarter to make it 4-1. Kiselgof made it 5-1, and first-year Morgan Nichter scored off an assist from Heffernan to give the Tigers a five-goal lead with 12:12 remaining.
  • Drew Charlton scored two goals in a three-goal run by Union, while Anna Smith scored with 5:48 to play that cut the RIT lead to 6-4.
  • Senior Baylee West scored off an assist from Heffernan with 4:57 to play to give the Tigers a 7-4 halftime lead.
  • Union’s Drew Charlton scored with 4:25 remaining in the third quarter to cut the RIT lead to 7-5.
  • First-year Kate Trojan scored a free-position goal with 1:59 remaining in the quarter to give RIT an 8-5 lead.
  • Jones scored off an assist from Heffernan with 1:21 to play in the third to make it 9-5, and Kiselgof tallied a free-position goal with one-minute remaining to extend the Tigers’ lead to 10-5.
  • McPartlon scored 45-seconds into the fourth quarter to cut the RIT lead to 10-6.
  • Kiselgof scored her third goal of the game with 13:10 to play to give the Tigers an 11-6 lead.
  • Union scored three straight goals, cutting the RIT lead to 11-9 on Greta Maurer’s goal with 7:32 to play.
  • Heffernan scored her third goal of the game with 5:48 to play to give the Tigers a 12-9 lead, and netter her fourth with seven seconds remaining to make it a 13-9 final.

 
GAME NOTES

  • Union outshot RIT, 31-26.
  • RIT was 14-of-19 on clears and had 16 ground balls.
  • The Tigers scored four of their 13 goals with the extra attacker.
