Curry and Dineen Earn Big East Weekly Awards

DENVER – Two Denver Pioneers women’s lacrosse players repeated as Big East weekly award winners on Monday as senior Ellie Curry was named Midfielder of the Week and attacker Ryan Dineen was chosen as Freshman of the Week.
 
Overall, four Pioneers were recognized as junior attacker Sloane Kipp and senior defender Sam Thacker were also named to the Big East’s Honor Roll for the week.
 
Denver picked up victories in both of its games over weekend, winning 15-8 at home on Friday night at Stanford before picking up a 23-6 victory on Sunday at Xavier. DU (15-0) is the No. 3 ranked squad in the country and is one of two undefeated teams in the country along with No. 1 Syracuse (15-0).
 
Curry totaled four points in the two games with three goals and one assist. She had a hat trick on Friday against Stanford, as she fired six of her seven shots on goal before adding a helper on Sunday.
 
The Lutherville, Maryland, native is tied for second on the squad in points with 35 and is second in goals with 23. Curry, who earned her fifth Midfielder of the Week award of the season, has also added 20 ground balls and 13 caused turnover on the year.
 
Dineen had a 10-point weekend on six goals and four assists. She tallied two goals and had three ground balls versus Stanford. The rookie then scored a career-high four goals at Xavier and added four assists to match a personal best with eight points.
 
This is the Huntingtown, Maryland, native’s third time being named Freshman of the Week. Dineen ranks third on the Pioneers with 22 goals and is tied with Curry for second in points with 35. She is second on DU with 11 free-position goals.
 
Kipp also combined for 10 points as she totaled six goals and four assists as well. She recorded a career-high six points with three goals and three assists against Stanford before adding four points (three goals, one assist) in her fourth-straight game with a hat trick against the Musketeers.
 
Thacker had five caused turnovers, four ground balls, five draw controls and one assist in the two outings. Her assist on Friday was her first career point, as she also forced five turnovers, grabbed three loose balls and controlled three draws against the Cardinal. Thacker added a ground ball and two draw controls against Xavier.
 
UP NEXT: The Pioneers host the Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. MT for Senior Day at Peter Barton Stadium. The game will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network.
