Bell tied his career-high with four goals and added two assists, while senior TJ Hendricks scored four goals. Senior Luke Pilcher had four assists and two goals, while first-year Chase Bruno tallied two goals and an assist.
RIT senior goalie Will Sterrett made 10 saves to earn the win in goal, while graduate student Taylor Jensen caused three turnovers. Junior Nick Farrell won 10-of-17 draws and senior Sean Traynor had five ground balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a pair of goals from Bruno and one from Bell early in the first quarter. Bell scored 56-seconds into the game off a feed from Bruno, while Bruno tallied back-to-back goals to give the Tigers the lead.
- Alex Seiler scored for Clarkson with 8:44 to play in the quarter to make the score 3-1.
- Bell scored in transition off an assist from senior Erik Jakobsze to give RIT a 4-1 lead.
- Bryan Penney scored with 5:52 to play to cut the RIT lead to 4-2, but sophomore Clifford Gaston tallied a man-down goal with 5:02 remaining to give the Tigers a 5-2 lead.
- Clarkson’s Matt Reilly scored early in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 5-3.
- Pilcher tallied a man-up goal off a feed from Bell to give the Tigers a 6-3 with 10:25 to play in the second.
- The Golden Knights scored with 7:18 remaining to make it 6-4, but junior defenseman Michael Grace scored off a feed from Bell with 2:48 to play to give RIT a 7-4 lead.
- Penney scored for Clarkson with 2:01 remaining to cut the Tigers’ lead to 7-5 at halftime.
- Pilcher scored 40-seconds into the third quarter to give RIT an 8-5 lead.
- Andrew Kearney answered for Clarkson with his goal with 13:07 to play to make the score, 8-6.
- Bell and Hendricks tallied back-to-back goals to increase the RIT lead to 10-6 with 8:35 to play in the third.
- Joe Kelly scored with 5:46 to play to make it 10-7, Hendricks scored with 4:43 remaining to give RIT an 11-7 lead, and Tyler Hall scored for the Golden Knights with 3:12 to play to cut the Tigers’ lead to 11-8.
- The Tigers outscored Clarkson, 4-0 in the fourth quarter. Hendricks scored twice, while Bell and sophomore Axel Sanderson each scored to make it a 15-8 final.
GAME NOTES
- RIT out-shot Clarkson, 44-39, including 28 on net.
- The Tigers won 15-of-27 face-offs and had 38 ground balls.
- RIT went 1-for-3 with the extra attacker.
