DENVER – Three players of the Denver Pioneers women’s lacrosse team picked up Big East weekly honors on Monday as senior Ellie Curry was named Midfielder of the Week, senior Sam Thacker was recognized as Defender of the Week and attacker Ryan Dineen was chosen as Freshman of the Week.

The trio helped No. 3 Denver to a 2-0 week, as the Pioneers defeated the Butler Bulldogs 19-4 on Wednesday and the No. 25 Connecticut Huskies 14-9 on Saturday to improve to 13-0 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.

Curry totaled five points (3g/2a) in the two games while adding six ground balls and causing three turnovers. The senior had a goal, two assists and four ground balls against Butler before registering two points (1g/1a) versus UConn.

This is Curry’s fourth Midfielder of the Week award of the season as she was also recognized on Feb. 27, March 6 and March 20.

Thacker picks up her first Defender of the Week award of the season and the fifth of her career after combining for three ground balls, eight draw controls and six caused turnovers versus the Bulldogs and Huskies.
