ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Three RIT student-athletes were named Liberty League Performers of the Week, announced Monday, April 10.

Graduate student goalie Will Sterrett was the Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Performer of the Week, while graduate student thrower Matthew Funicelli was named Field Performer of the Week. On the women’s side, first year Samantha Crisci was named Track & Field Rookie of the Week.

Crisci clocked the Liberty League’s fastest 400 hurdle time (1:06.45) of the spring with a second-place effort in Saturday’s RIT Invitational while also finishing fourth in the 100 hurdles. Earlier in the week, she placed second in the 400 hurdles (1:07.25) and fourth in the 100 hurdles at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational. Her prelim time in the 100 hurdles (15.89) ranks sixth in the league this season.

Funicelli swept the shot put (15.59m/51′ 1.75″), discus (48.89m/160′ 4″) and the hammer (53.79m/176′ 5″) during Saturday’s RIT Invitational. He also won the hammer (55.29m/181′ 4″) and finished third in both the shot put (15.48m/50′ 9.5″) and discus (46.17m/151′ 5″) competing in a field that included DI competitors at Monday’s Geneseo Early Season Invitational. Funicelli leads the Liberty League in all three events this spring while ranking 15th nationally in both the discus and hammer and 20th in the shot put. He broke the 40-year-old program shot put record on Monday before bettering it by nearly five inches on Saturday.

Sterrett made a season-high 15 saves in RIT’s 13-10 win at No. 9 Union Saturday. The graduate student netminder made five saves in the third quarter and six in the fourth quarter, allowing four second-half goals.
