First-years Serafina Kiselgof and Kate Trojan each scored two goals, while graduate student goalie Michelle Messenger made 14 saves for the Tigers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Heffernan scored two of the Tigers three first-quarter goals, tying the game at 1-1 on her goal early in the first quarter, and again with 11:06 to play to tie the game at 2-2.
- Rensselaer tallied three straight goals, taking a 5-2 lead on Rylie Maready’s goal with 6:17 remaining.
- Kiselgof scored off an assist from first year Adele Jones in the final seconds of the quarter to cut the deficit to 5-3.
- Trojan scored to straight goals to begin the second quarter, tying the score at 5-5 on her goal with 8:12 to play.
- Maready gave the Engineers a 6-5 lead on her goal, but Kiselgof tallied her second of the quarter to tie the game at 6-6.
- RPI’s Lauren DeLeo scored to make it 7-6, but sophomore Lily DePalma and senior Baylee West tallied back-to-back goals in the closing seconds to give RIT an 8-7 halftime lead.
- RPI took a 9-8 lead on DeLeo’s goal early in the third quarter, but first year Milena Stephen tied the score at 9-9 on her goal with 6:55 to play in the third, while Sophie Goddard gave RPI a 10-9 lead on her goal with 4:29 remaining.
- Heffernan and junior Julia Tenney tallied back-to-back goals to give the Tigers an 11-10 lead late in the third. Tenney scored off an assist from Heffernan to give the Tigers the lead.
- RPI’s Megan Shay gave the Engineers a 12-11 lead on the second of her back-to-back goals to begin the fourth quarter.
- Junior Carrissa Hlywa tied the score at 12-12 on her goal with 2:26 to play.
- Maready scored the game-winner with 1:01 to play to make it a 13-12 final.
GAME NOTES
- RPPI outshot RIT, 43-25.
- RIT won eight draw controls and went 21-of-23 on clearing attempts.
- The Tigers had 13 ground balls.
