McPherson and Dineen Earn Big East Weekly Honors

DENVER – Two University of Denver women’s lacrosse players earned Big East Conference honors on Monday as Trinity McPherson was named Defender of the Week and Ryan Dineen was named Freshman of the Week.
The No. 4 Pioneers are 10-0 on the season and are coming off a 12-7 win last Wednesday at No. 21 Jacksonville. Denver jumped out to a 6-1 lead before JU staged a 6-2 run to make it an 8-7 game early in the fourth quarter. The Pioneers tallied each of the final four goals of the contest en route to the victory.
McPherson picked up her second Defender of the Week award of the season after recording a goal, an assist, five ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers against the Dolphins.
The Baltimore, Maryland, native now has goals in each of the last four games and has eight points (4g/4a) on the season. She ranks second on the team in ground balls (22-tied) and third in draw controls (25) and caused turnovers (11).
Dineen earned her first career weekly honor after recording her second hat trick of the season. Each of her three goals versus Jacksonville came on free-position shots for her third multi-goal game of her rookie campaign. Dineen finished with five shots in the outing.
The Huntingtown, Maryland, native has nine goals and three assists on the season and is 5-for-5 on free-position attempts. She leads all freshmen on the team and ranks fifth on the Pioneers in goals and sixth in points.
UP NEXT: Denver begins Big East Conference play this weekend as it opens a two-game homestand at Peter Barton Stadium. DU hosts Villanova on Saturday at 1 p.m. MT before taking on Butler next Wednesday, April 5 on its home turf.
