Senior Luke Pilcher scored two goals and had two assists, while first year Tyson Allison scored two goals. Junior Seth Grottenthaler had a goal and two assists, senior John Mozrall had two assists and junior Ian Dinga had a goal and an assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- John Wagner gave Vassar a 1-0 lead on his goal 51 seconds into the game.
- Allison scored on a drive to the net to give the Tigers a 5-1 lead with 5:39 to play in the quarter. Hendricks two goals in the Tigers’ five-goal run.
- Vassar scored the next three goals, cutting the RIT lead to 5-4 on a Drew Amirsakis goal with 2:54 to play.
- Hendricks scored off an assist from senior Mozrall to give the Tigers a 6-4 lead, but Dan Negron scored with 15 seconds to play in the quarter to cut the RIT lead to 6-5.
- Bell scored early in the second quarter to give RIT a 7-5 lead.
- Jon Bradbury scored for Vassar to cut the Tigers’ lead to 7-6.
- Pilcher scored with 4:21 to play in the half to give RIT an 8-6 lead and sophomore long-stick midfielder Axel Sanderson scored with five seconds to play to give the Tigers a 9-6 halftime lead.
- Bell scored three goals in a six-goal run by RIT to start the third quarter. Allison, Hendricks and junior Kaden Brunson also scored.
- Vassar scored two straight goals to cut the RIT lead to 15-8 late in the quarter, but Pilcher scored off a feed from Mozrall with five seconds to play to give RIT a 16-8 lead.
- Sophomore Ethan Harkins scored from junior Michael Finneran with 9:03 to play in the fourth quarter to give RIT a 17-8 lead.
- Dinga scored to give with three minutes to play to give the Tigers an 18-9 lead, while Ian Zumpano scored with 2:13 remaining to make it an 18-10 final.
GAME NOTES
- RIT outshot Vassar, 45-44
- The Tigers won 17-of-32 face-offs and had 46 ground balls.
- RIT outscored Vassar 9-4 in the second half, including 7-2 in the third quarter.
- RIT graduate student Will Sterrett made nine saves to earn the win.
- Seniors Zach Gagnon and Taylor Jensen and junior Michael Grace each caused two turnovers.
- Senior Ethan Stiles won 8-of-18 draws and had three ground balls. Gagnon led the Tigers with four GB’s.
