ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT graduate student goalie Michelle Messenger made a season-high 17 saves in the Tigers 11-10 overtime loss to Vassar, Friday.
Juniors Julia Tenney and Carrissa Hlywa and sophomore Lily DePalma each tallied two goals, while first-year Adele Jones and senior Kayleigh Ground each had had a goal and an assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hlywa scored with 8:26 to play in the opening quarter to give the Tigers the lead.
- Maddy Kretten scored two goals in a six-goal Vassar run, giving the Brewers a 6-1 lead on her tally with 5:49 to play in the second quarter.
- First-year Milena Stephen scored off an assist from Jones to make it a 6-2 game, and DePalma scored with 1:48 to play in the half to cut the deficit to 6-3 at the break.
- Tenney scored two goals and added an assist in the Tigers’ four-goal run to begin the third quarter. She fed Ground with a pass with 5:16 to play in the quarter to give RIT a 7-6 lead.
- The Brewers scored two straight goals at the end of the third quarter with an 8-7 lead.
- Hlywa scored off an assist from first-year Zoe Heffernan early in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 8-8.
- DePalma and Jones tallied back-to-back goals to give the Tigers a 10-9 lead with 32 seconds to play in regulation.
- Vassar’s Annie Uyeki scored with two seconds remaining in the fourth to tie the game at 10-10, and Reilly Mulcahy scored with 35 seconds to play in OT to make it an 11-10 final.
GAME NOTES
- RIT outshot Vassar, 37-33.
- The Tigers won 20-of-25 draw controls and had 17 ground balls.
- RIT went 15-of-23 on clearing attempts.
- Jones won 10 draw controls, while first-year Morgan Nichter won five draws and had two ground balls.
