HOW IT HAPPENED
- Christopher Newport scored the first three goals of the game, including a goal from Easton Lancios’ goal from near midfield to give the Captains a 3-0 lead.
- Bell scored off an assist from Mozrall midway through the quarter to cut the CNU lead to 3-1.
- The Captains scored two straight goals to take a 5-1 lead.
- Gaston broke the run with his man-up goal with 17 seconds to play in the quarter to cut the deficit to 5-2.
- Sophomore midfielder Sam Bennett scored the second of two straight goals by RIT to start the second quarter to cut the Captains lead to 5-4 with 11:15 to play in the half.
- Christopher Newport scored three straight goals, including a pair of man-up tallies to give the Captains an 8-4 lead with nine minutes to play.
- Junior Seth Grottenthaler scored his fifth goal of the season with 8:45 remaining in the half to cut the CNU lead to 8-5, but the Captains scored twice in the final five minutes to lead 10-5 at the break.
- Gaston scored four goals in a five-goal quarter for the Tigers, including RIT’s final three goals of the quarter to cut the Christopher Newport lead to 11-10 late in the quarter.
- CNU scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to increase the Captain’s lead to 13-10.
- Bell tallied his second goal of the game with 7:21 remaining to make the score 13-11.
- Christopher Newport scored two goals inside the final four minutes to make it a 15-11 final.
GAME NOTES
- RIT outshot Christopher Newport, 45-40.
- The Tigers won the ground ball battle, 37-33.
- RIT went 1-for-2 with the extra man and was 25-of-26 on clearing attempts.
- RIT junior goalie Kyle Burbank made three saves in net.
