Amelia Hughes Named Ivy League Defensive Player Of The Week
First0tear goalkeeper Amelia Hughes continues to make an impact in net for Princeton as the women’s lacrosse season begins, and her 14 saves this past weekend in an 11-8 win over No. 20 USC caught the attention of the Ivy office with her selection as Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week.
Hughes made seven of her 14 saves in the first quarter on Friday, keeping the Trojans at bay early on. She went on to make seven more stops the rest of the way as Princeton picked up its second Top-20 win of the season.
Hughes, who was named IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week earlier this season after a 19-save outing at Temple, leads the Ivy League and ranks No. 2 in the country in saves-per-game at 12.25.
Princeton, currently ranked No. 14 in the country, is back in action against a Top-25 opponent when the Tigers host No. 25 Penn State on March 18 at 12 p.m.
