On Wednesday, Denver improved to 5-0 to start the season with a 7-5 win over No. 21 Michigan in the Pioneers’ home opener at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Denver held a 10-6 edge in draws and had eight caused turnovers in the defensive battle. Julia Gilbert and Mollie Estepp had two goal apiece to lead Denver in scoring.

Goalkeeper Emelia Bohi, who made four saves in the midweek win over Michigan, and Ellie Curry earned honors from the BIG EAST Conference on Monday.

Abby Jenkins leads DU in the draw circle with 29 on the year. Bryn McCaughey leads Denver in both caused turnovers (12) and ground balls (15).

Coming off a trip to the national semifinal a year ago, Maryland enters Sunday’s contest at 3-2 on the season, dropping its last game on Wednesday by a goal at No. 12 James Madison. The Terps won their only other home game this season, defeating Saint Joseph’s in their season opener by a score of 15-5. Maryland is led on offense by Libby May, who has 17 goals and two assists. Eloise Clevenger has a team-high 14 assists on the season to go with five goals.

Sunday marks the fifth meeting between the two programs, with Maryland winning all four of the previous matchups in College Park. The last two meetings between the schools have come in the NCAA Tournament: back-to-back encounters in the 2018 NCAA Second Round and the 2019 NCAA Quarterfinals. Maryland won the 2019 NCAA meeting 17-8, ending Denver’s deepest run in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
