Denver is 4-0 on the season, with it winning each of its games on the road this season. The Pioneers are coming off a 11-4 victory at Ohio State on Saturday. Goalkeeper Emelia Bohi made four key saves in the fourth quarter to keep DU in the lead, and senior captain Ellie Curry produced five points (three goals and two assists) to earn Big East Midfielder of the Week honors.
Fellow senior captain Julia Gilbert had three goals and an assist, and graduate student attacker Kayla DeRose recorded her third career hat trick. Junior Abby Jenkins recorded eight draw controls, while graduate student Trinity McPherson led the Denver defense with three draw controls, three ground balls and one caused turnover.
Michigan has a 3-2 record on the season and has won its last two contests. The Wolverines defeated Central Michigan 7-6 in its last outing on Sunday. Kayla Dyer led UM offensively with three goals, and Josie Gooch scored the game-winner to break the 6-6 tie with 2:08 remaining in regulation.
The Pioneers and Wolverines will be meeting for the second consecutive season and the fourth time overall. Denver holds a 2-1 lead over the Wolverines in the all-time series, winning the last two matchups.
DU won 9-8 last year on March 13 in Ann Arbor, as the team rallied for the victory after trailing by 6-1 and 8-4 scores in the game. The Pioneers finished the contest on a five-goal run, including tallying four times in the fourth quarter, with Gilbert scoring the game-winner with 4:05 left in the frame.
Bohi made seven saves in that contest, while holding Michigan to only eight goals for—tied for the team’s second-lowest output of the season and offsetting its average of 12.7 goals per game during the 2022 season.
The Wolverines will be making their first visit to Peter Barton Stadium since earning a 12-10 win on Feb. 26, 2019 in the first-ever matchup between the programs. Denver got revenge later in the season by winning 9-5 in Ann Arbor in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to advance to its first elite eight.
This is DU’s latest home opener in a non-COVID-related season since hosting Boston University on March 11, 2015.
