The Pioneers improved to 4-0 on the season, with each of their victories coming on the road. Denver hosts No. 18 Michigan on Wednesday at 4 p.m. MT in its home opener at Peter Barton Stadium.
 
Gilbert added two assists to go along with her hat trick, while DeRose posted her third career three-goal outing at the brand-new Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium.
 
Senior Ellie Curry had a multi-goal performance as well, tallying twice and producing two assists to tie a career high with four points. It was her fifth career four-point contest, as she produced four last season.
 
Mollie Estepp found the back of the net and recorded a helper, and Raegan Wilson scored the only free-position goal of the game—doing so with 1:06 remaining.
 
Ohio State led 2-1 late in the first quarter before DeRose tallied her first of the contest with 1:10 remaining before the initial break. The tally spurred a six-goal run, as Denver outscored OSU 4-0 in the second stanza and led 7-2 before the Buckeyes’ Casey Roberts tallied her second of the outing at 5:38 of the third.
 
The Pioneers added four more markers in the final 20 minutes, with DeRose and Gilbert reaching the hat-trick threshold and Estepp and Wilson also scoring.
 
Denver outshot Ohio State 26-15 overall. DU goalkeeper Emelia Bohi made four saves, with each coming in the fourth quarter.
 
The Pioneers finished with a 14-5 advantage in draw controls, as junior Abby Jenkins led the team with eight.
 
Denver caused 11 turnovers and grabbed 14 ground balls in the contest. Graduate student Trinity McPherson led DU’s defense with three ground balls, three draw controls and one caused turnover.
 
UP NEXT: Denver takes on Michigan on Wednesday at 4 p.m. MT at Peter Barton Stadium in its first home game of the season.
