Brown, Wahlund Earn B1G Weekly Honors

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s lacrosse players Cullen Brown and Skylar Wahlund received Big Ten player of the week awards, the conference announced Tuesday. Brown was named the Freshman of the Week while Wahlund earned Specialist of the Week honors.

Brown and Wahlund combined to help the Ohio State defensive unit hold then-ranked No. 19 North to just one goal in the second half as the Buckeyes took the 8-5 win over the Tar Heels Sunday at Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium.

Wahlund posted 12 saves in goal for the Buckeyes in the win, stopping six shots in the second half to help the team overcome a 4-2 deficit in the final 30 minutes of play. The senior from Powell, Ohio added six ground balls on the day.

Brown, a freshman from Silver Springs, Md., added a ground ball and helped the team in keep the Tar Heels, who were averaging 18 goals per game headed into the weekend, to just five on the day.

Ohio State hits the road for its first away game of the season this weekend, meeting No. 1 Virginia in a neutral site matchup. The Buckeyes and the top-ranked Cavaliers meet 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Paradise Sports Complex in Naples, Fla. The game will be streamed on B1G+ (subscription required).
