Six Tigers earn Liberty League weekly honors

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Six RIT student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League with Player of the Week recognition, announced Monday, January 20.

Junior swimmer Mike Atanasoff was the Men’s Swimmer of the Week for the fourth time this season, sophomore diver Gellert Kish was named Diver of the Week for the fifth time and first-year swimmer Miles Lim was the Rookie of the Week for the sixth time this season.

Graduate student midfielder Zeb Hollinger was the Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Performer of the Week and junior defenseman Michael Grace was a named Defensive Performer of the Week. Graduate student Matthew Funicelli was named the Men’s Track & Field Field Performer of the Week for the second time this season.

Atanasoff was named Liberty League Swimmer of the Year leading No. 18 RIT to its second straight Liberty League title. Atanasoff won the 100 fly with a Liberty League and program record 48.28 and won the 50 freestyle (20.13), tying the Liberty League and program record he set in the preliminaries. He swam a leg in the winning 400 medley relay that finished with a Liberty League and program record time of 3:18.16, and swam legs in three second-place relays that set program records.

Kish was named Liberty League Diver of the Year for the second straight year to help lead No. 18 RIT to its second straight Liberty League title. Kish won the 3-meter title with a score of 530.0 in the finals, and recorded a score of 530.45 to win the 1-meter title.

Lim finished second in the 200 butterfly final to help No. 18 RIT to its second-straight Liberty League titles. He finished second in the 200 freestyle final in a program record time of 1:40.88 and placed ninth in the 500 freestyle.

Hollinger scored two goals including the game-winner in the third overtime to lead No. 1 RIT to a 10-9 win at Muhlenberg, Saturday. He scored late in the first half to give the Tigers a 7-4 lead and again with 2:06 remaining in the third overtime on a driving shot.

Grace caused three turnovers, had three ground balls, anchoring a defense that allowed nine goal to lead No. 1 RIT to a 10-9 triple overtime win at Muhlenberg, Saturday.

Funicelli won the shot put at the Nazareth Conference Tune-Up on Friday with a program record and Liberty League leading 16.32m/53′ 6.5″ performance. He currently ranks sixth nationally in the event.
