PREVIEW: No. 10 DU Travels to Boulder to Face Buffaloes

BOULDER, Colo. – The No. 10 University of Denver women’s lacrosse team continues its season-opening road swing this weekend, but the Pioneers don’t have travel far for their third game of the season.
 
Denver and the University of Colorado Buffaloes renew its in-state rivalry on Saturday at 1p.m. MT at Kittredge Field on the CU campus.
 
The Pioneers are 2-0 on the campaign after winning both games during its first road trip of the season last weekend. DU rallied with five unanswered goals to defeat Louisville 5-4 last Friday before picking up an 11-6 victory at Vanderbilt on Sunday.
 
Sophomore attacker Lauren Black combined for four goals over the weekend, while sophomore Mollie Estepp and senior Ellie Curry tallied three times apiece in the two contests. Junior Bryn McCaughey led Denver’s defense with eight caused turnovers and seven ground balls in the set, and junior Abby Jenkins won 13 draws over the two outings.
 
Goalkeeper Emelia Bohi recorded a team-high eight ground balls and 11 saves over the two contests, owning a .524 save percentage on the year. She was named the Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
 
Denver is 5-4 all-time against Colorado, which is entering its 10th season of competition. The Pioneers nearly erased a five-goal deficit in the final 17 minutes in last year’s meeting on April 27 but ultimately fell 12-10 at Peter Barton Stadium.
 
Colorado also played Vanderbilt and Louisville last weekend as well but dropped both of those contest to start its season. The Buffaloes opened the year with an 11-10 overtime loss at Vandy on Friday before falling 12-5 on Sunday against the Cardinals.
 
Saturday’s game in Boulder is free for the general public and free parking is available in adjacent Lot 416 starting three hours before game time.
