COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s lacrosse players Drew Blanchard and Jack Myers were named Big Ten players of the week, the conference announced Tuesday. Blanchard earns the league’s Specialist of the Week award for the first time in his career and Myers is tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week for the fifth time in his career.
Blanchard went 22-for-26 on the faceoff in Saturday’s season opener against Air Force. His 22 wins are a career high for the graduate student and the most by a Big Ten faceoff specialist in the first weekend of the 2023 season. Blanchard, a native of Lincoln, R.I., led the team with an Ohio State career-high 12 ground balls in the 15-7 win.
Myers led the Buckeyes, and the Big Ten, with nine points on Saturday. He tallied a team and league-best five assists on the day and added four goals. His first goal of the day was the first goal scored in Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium. The senior recorded his 200th career point in the game, making him the sixth player in program history to reach the mark. Myers, from Bethesda, Md., has 203 points for his career.
Ohio State is back in action this Saturday, Feb. 11 against Cleveland State. The Buckeyes and Vikings faceoff at noon at Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium.
